Pupils and staff of New Rush Hall School came together to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week with a range of thoughtful, creative, and inspiring activities that will have a lasting impact on our whole school community.
Centred around the theme “Using Nature to Boost Your Mental Health,” the week began with a series of outdoor experiences designed to help pupils connect with the natural world. From scenic walks in local parks, to relaxing group picnics and outdoor learning opportunities, pupils across both primary and secondary phases embraced the mental health benefits of fresh air and green spaces. Tutor groups also led engaging discussions and presentations on how nature can support wellbeing.
Midweek, the school was filled with energy and positivity during the uplifting “Pass the Positive Potato” activity. This simple yet powerful initiative encouraged pupils and staff to share kind words and messages, helping to build a supportive and caring atmosphere throughout the school.
The highlight of the week was the Open Minds Mental Health Performance, a powerful showcase of pupil and staff talent. Through spoken word, song, drama, and music, performers explored personal journeys and shared messages of hope and resilience. Staff members also took part, offering insight into the strategies they use to maintain their own mental wellbeing. The event was deeply moving and sparked meaningful reflection among everyone in attendance.
In tutor time, pupils explored important mental health topics, including a special focus on men’s mental health, encouraging open conversations and greater understanding of this often overlooked area.
Throughout the week, pupils were invited to engage with the school’s “Coping Brains” displays, interactive and informative boards offering practical strategies and positive messages to support emotional health.
A huge thank you to all staff, pupils, and families who contributed to the success of Mental Health Awareness Week. It was a powerful reminder that wellbeing matters every day and that by supporting each other with openness and compassion, we can all thrive together.
