Pupils in Sapphire Class recently visited Lambourne End Farm for their Year 6 Residential trip which included an overnight stay. In the lead-up to the visit, they managed their emotions well with some being understandably nervous, while others were full of excitement and anticipation, as it was the first time that they were staying away from home.
Upon arrival, the pupils unpacked their belongings and selected their bunk beds, settling into their shared accommodation with enthusiasm. The first morning was packed with adventure, beginning with sessions on the climbing wall. Pupils were challenged to push themselves, some climbed part way up while others proudly reached the top. Throughout, they encouraged one another, showing great teamwork and support.
One of the more daunting activities was abseiling, which required courage and resilience. Despite their initial nerves, pupils embraced the experience and gave it their best effort.
The afternoon offered a new set of challenges, starting with archery. Pupils listened carefully to the safety briefing and followed the instructions to use the equipment responsibly and confidently. This was followed by orienteering, where they used maps to navigate around the site and locate various checkpoints, developing both their teamwork and navigation skills.
Dinner was a hearty meal of pizza, a clear hit as there was nothing left over! The day ended on a high with a campfire on the field, providing a calm, relaxed atmosphere where pupils could unwind after a full day of activities.
The following morning was more relaxed, with pupils enjoying free time on the field before taking part in a farm tour. They met a variety of animals and learned more about the workings of the farm, rounding off the trip with a hands-on, outdoor learning experience.
The group returned to school tired but happy, having made memories and grown in confidence. Many pupils said they particularly enjoyed the freedom and space of the countryside, and several are already looking forward to returning in secondary school.
One pupil said: ‘That was a really fun trip, the best bit was the orienteering and not being able to use the satnav on a mobile phone, we didn’t get lost and made it back in time for pizza, which we needed because we walked so far.’
