Year 10 were lucky to welcome an inspiring guest speaker, Ben Timi Nuga, better known as J3tsy, to New Rush Hall School as part of their George Floyd unit in English. J3tsy is a true creative force: an author, designer, photographer, musician, playwright, and poet.
He spoke passionately about his journey into music, his experiences as a creative, and even his appearance on Countdown! He also shared his published book about a student with ASD who finds a new world through music, a story that really resonated with pupils.
The highlight of the session came when J3tsy worked with the classes to collectively plan and perform a rap based on their own interests and ideas. Pupils had the chance to see how words and rhythm could be used to express themselves powerfully.
A pupil commented, “I loved making the rap together, it was fun and helped us think in a different way.” Another said, “Hearing J3tsy’s story made me realise you can follow lots of creative paths.”
