Honouring Africa at the British Museum

Year 9 Geography pupils enjoyed a trip to the British Museum. This trip was linked to the Year 9 topic of Africa and provided the opportunity to explore the rich geography of Africa and its diverse cultures past and present.

Pupils were given the chance to view the African galleries and view a range of artefacts and interactive exhibits that brought this time period to life. One pupil commented,“I did not realise how clever different cultures in Africa were at crafting goods.” Another pupil commented, “The replica of the African shields was amazing; the detail was impressive”.

A bonus of the trip was that it links in with our work at NRHS celebrating Black History Month and the 2026 theme is “Honouring our Communities”; and pupils had a raised awareness of how our interconnected world provides many opportunities to share ideas and rich heritages and value the contributions of migrants within multicultural Britain.

The trip concluded at “Il Castello” restaurant, where pupils were treated to a delicious Italian meal, they discussed their learning and had the chance to share ideas.
