Aiming High – RAF workshops

Pupils in KS3 took part in engaging workshops led by the RAF. The sessions were designed to introduce pupils to careers within the RAF and the STEM sector while helping them understand how subjects such as science and computing link to real world job roles. Pupils were encouraged to take part in practical activities that promoted curiosity teamwork and problem solving in a supportive learning environment.

During the workshops pupils took part in hands-on coding activities where they learned how to programme and move robots around a map. Pupils also explored a range of science experiments which were made even more engaging through the use of science-themed costumes. During these experiments pupils learned about gravitational pull forces and strength which helped them understand how scientific concepts are used in real life situations. These activities supported the development of confidence resilience and key skills such as logical thinking communication and collaboration.

These workshops provided pupils with valuable insight into STEM-based careers and helped them see how classroom learning can connect to future opportunities. Experiences like this are particularly beneficial for our SEMH pupils as they offer structured practical learning and exposure to professionals from outside school. The sessions were enjoyable and inspiring and encouraged pupils to think positively about their futures and the wide range of career pathways available to them.

One pupil summed up the experience by saying, “I love planes and the Air Force, so the workshop was really good fun.”
