A visit to the Natural History Museum

Pupils in Ruby class visited the Natural History Museum to support their Science learning about Animals including Humans. During the trip, pupils explored the museum’s galleries and observed a range of animal skeletons, including humans.

Pupils visited the Mary Anning fossils, the mammal’s gallery and the dinosaur exhibition. Pupils enjoyed seeing the real skeletons on display and made links to their learning. Pupils read the information on display and were able to make links to the size of the animals they saw. They talked about the similarities and differences about the animals on display and we’re amazed by the size of the blue whale.

This real-life experience was then brought back into the classroom in the final lesson of our topic where pupils compared the skeletons of a range of animals. Pupils were able to draw on what they saw at the museum to support them in giving reasons and making comparisons.

One pupil said “I was really cool seeing the horse and human skeleton. I liked seeing the dinosaurs and it helped me with my learning.”
