Sapphire class had a brilliant day out at Wellgate Community Farm to link with their Geography topic on agriculture. The visit gave pupils the chance to experience a real working farm and see exactly how animals are cared for every day.
Pupils loved getting up close to the animals. They learned how different animals are fed and looked after, and they noticed how each one had its own type of shelter. Everyone showed lovely calm behaviour, speaking gently and being very careful when petting or feeding. They asked lots of thoughtful questions too, wanting to know how the farm looks after its animals and how they arrived there.
The class also explored the farm allotment, which helped them connect their learning to the school allotment back at New Rush Hall. Pupils tasted different herbs, explored growing areas and even planted their own seeds to take home. They were really proud of how much they already knew and it was wonderful to see them using their classroom knowledge outdoors.
The muddy ground didn’t bother anyone, pupils were more than happy to get their shoes dirty as they explored! One of the funniest moments came when a cheeky sheep squeezed its way into the chicken enclosure and refused to come out. The class found it hilarious and it made the trip even more memorable!
