We were delighted to welcome Nurse James Chung back to NRHS this year, where he spoke with our Primary and Year 7 pupils about a career in nursing. His visit provided an exciting opportunity to introduce our younger pupils to the world of work and inspire them to consider careers in healthcare.Nurse James shared his personal journey once again, explaining how he overcame challenges with his A-levels and pursued a BTEC in Medical Science before going to university and qualifying as a nurse. He emphasised the importance of achieving five GCSEs, including English, Maths and Science, for anyone interested in joining the profession.
To make the experience even more engaging, Nurse James brought along various pieces of medical equipment, including breathing tubes, oxygen masks and a stethoscope. Pupils were fascinated by the hands-on learning experience and eagerly asked questions about nursing and university life.
The enthusiasm from both our Primary and Year 7 pupils was incredible! They were engaged, curious and full of insightful questions, which Nurse James was happy to answer. One Primary pupil shared: ‘I really liked the talk, he spoke about how he went from school to university to work.’ Another Year 7 pupil said: “I enjoyed how open he was about his journey and how he overcame his struggles with his learning; it was inspiring.’
Nurse James’ visit has undoubtedly sparked an interest in healthcare among our younger pupils, and we look forward to welcoming him back again in the future.
