Year 8 pupils delved into the dark history of London with a visit to the London Dungeons, tying into the Sinister Stories English unit.
After a McDonald’s breakfast, the pupils began the visit to the London Dungeons with the Gunpowder Plot, meeting Guy Fawkes and uncovering the grim punishments for treason. In the Torture Chamber, they learned about medieval interrogation methods before stepping into the plague-stricken streets of 1665, guided by a Plague Doctor.
They then experienced the Elizabeth Sawyer’s witch trial, followed by the eerie smells of Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop, part of Sweeney Todd’s gruesome story. The adventure continued through Whitechapel’s dark alleys as they explored Jack the Ripper’s crimes. The visit ended with the courtroom and the Drop Dead Ride, a thrilling finale.
The visit brought sinister stories to life, blending history and horror in a way that the pupils will never forget.
One pupil said: ‘It was a really interesting, if not a little gruesome, visit to the London Dungeons. I never realised that London had such a dark history.’
