As part of their science topic plants and animals, Amethyst class visited Call of the Wild Zoo.
In lessons, pupils have been exploring the features of different habitats, and the types of adaptions plants and animals have to help them survive in their environment.
During the visit, pupils were able to see a range of animals such as Zebras, Penguins, Wallabies and Reptiles and could discuss the habitats that they live in.
As well as looking at the range of animals in the zoo, pupils took part in a workshop exploring the features of different habitats, the types of animals that can be found there and the adaptations that they have to help them survive. As part of the session, pupils were able to handle a range of animals from cockroaches to skunks.
One pupil said: ‘I really didn’t want to touch the cockroach but I was brave and it wasn’t that bad.’
Pupils really enjoyed seeing the range of animals on offer and finding out some interesting facts about each species. The group were also able to discuss their views about animals being kept in a zoo and shared their thoughts and opinions in a respectful way.
The most popular animals with both pupils and staff were the Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys, the Macaw Parrots and the Meerkats. All of the pupils said they would love to go back for another visit.
