A group of Year 9 pupils recently had the exciting opportunity to visit PEW Electrical as part of their career’s education programme. The visit gave pupils a valuable insight into the electrical industry and the wide range of career opportunities available within the sector.
The morning began with a 15 to 20-minute talk from Jason Clark, Chairman of PEW Electrical. Jason shared his personal journey from his early years and childhood experiences through to starting his career as an apprentice and eventually becoming a successful business owner. Pupils listened carefully as he spoke openly about the challenges he faced along the way as well as the determination and hard work that helped him achieve his goals. His story was both honest and inspiring and gave pupils a real understanding of how career pathways can develop over time.
Following the talk, the group moved on to the warehouse facility where they were given a guided tour of PEW Electrical. Pupils had the chance to explore behind the scenes and see how the business operates on a day-to-day basis. During the tour they saw many fascinating aspects of the company’s work and gained a deeper understanding of the equipment processes and organisation involved in the electrical industry.
As part of the guided tour, pupils also visited the graphic design workshop where Gabriele gave them an insight into another important area of the business. She showed the pupils how graphics are created and set up for a lift-specific sign before demonstrating the laser engraving machine in action as it carefully produced the finished sign. This was a particularly engaging part of the visit and gave pupils the chance to see how creativity, technology and precision all work together in a professional environment.
One pupil said: “This was one of the best careers trips we have been on because we got to see so many different parts of the business. Hearing Jason’s story and then watching the laser engraving machine in action made us realise how many exciting opportunities there are in the world of work.”
The visit was a fantastic experience for all involved and gave pupils a meaningful insight into apprenticeships, career progression and the opportunities that exist within skilled industries.
