Year 9 pupils were fortunate enough to visit the Museum of the London Docklands. This trip complemented Year 9 studies of the Second World War this term.
Pupils were given the opportunity to experience what life was like in World War II for soldiers and civilians and to examine a range of artefacts and eyewitness accounts to experience stepping back in time. One pupil said: “Being able to step into a World War II bunker was an eyeopener; it made me realise how dangerous the war was”. Another pupil commented: “People in London were really brave during the Blitz and helped each other to survive and that takes courage”.
A bonus of the trip was the chance to have a riverside walk along Canary Wharf and visit the Cross Place Roof Garden with a selection of exotic plants and to enjoy a slice of nature in a busy metropolis.
The trip rounded off with a meal at The Big Easy in Canary Wharf where pupils savoured a delicious meal with views over Docklands.
