A Fine Dining Experience

Recently, five pupils had the opportunity to visit a Gordon Ramsay restaurant in Stratford.  This was part of an enrichment experience designed to broaden their understanding of food and dining in an environment which they may not have previously experienced.

The group enjoyed a set menu and so were able to sample a wide range of dishes. Starters included pumpkin soup, fish bites, and chicken wings. For mains, pupils chose from a smash burger, fish, and steak. To finish, desserts of sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu were shared amongst the group.

The service throughout the meal was excellent, with staff being welcoming, attentive, and professional, which helped the pupils feel comfortable in a more formal dining environment. While the pupils jokingly commented that the chips were “not as good as the chicken shop,” they were surprised at how full they felt by the end of the meal, despite the portions appearing smaller than they were used to. This led to a useful discussion about pacing, presentation, and how taking time to eat can make a meal more satisfying.

The visit was an enjoyable and valuable experience that exposed the pupils to high-quality food, good service, and positive table manners, while encouraging them to reflect on how they will be plating their own food ready for the GCSE practical in the coming weeks.

One pupil said: “I have had a lot of burgers, but none of them have been as good as the one I have just had; you can definitely taste and see the difference in the quality of the food here”.
