At New Rush Hall School, our Pupil Ambassadors play an important role in shaping school life. They are expected to set a positive example for others and act as the pupil voice across the school. Ambassadors regularly complete questionnaires and surveys so they can share their views with senior leaders and help influence decisions that improve the school community.
Over the last term, ambassadors have been particularly involved in supporting changes to the school menu. They met with the school chef to talk about what pupils enjoy what they feel could be improved and what they think other pupils would like to see. Their feedback was listened to carefully and several of their ideas were used to make real changes to the menu. This was a great example of how pupil voice can lead to meaningful outcomes.
As a reward for their com
mitment and hard work, the Pupil Ambassadors were given the opportunity to vote for their own reward trip. They chose to visit Sandbox VR in Covent Garden which offers an immersive virtual reality experience.
Pupils were split into small groups and selected different virtual worlds to take part in. One group chose a Stranger Things experience where they wore headsets and full body tracking equipment. As pupils moved their arms and legs the technology mirrored their movements inside the virtual world allowing them to dance, explore and fully engage with the experience. The session was full of laughter excitement and energy.
Pupils spoke very positively about the visit with one ambassador saying he would happily go every week. The trip finished with a meal together which gave pupils time to relax reflect and enjoy each other’s company.
Trips like this are an important way of recognising the dedication and responsibility shown by our Pupil Ambassadors. They reward positive behaviour leadership and commitment and reinforce the message that pupil voice matters at New Rush Hall School.
