Y7 pupils visited the Charles Dickens Museum to support their study of ‘A Christmas Carol’ in their English lessons this term. The trip was organised to help bring the story alive, and to help them to better understand what life in Victorian London was like.
The pupils had a guided tour around the museum, which really brought the artefacts within the museum to life. The museum, which was in a house where Charles Dickens lived, in Bloomsbury, and pupils were shown where Charles Dickens wrote some of his most famous novels.
One pupil said: ‘I didn’t understand how hard life was in those times, I thought it was just a made-up story. It was really interesting to hear how people lived in Victorian London.”
After visiting the museum, pupils went for something to eat before heading back to school. They all realised how different their lives are now compared to children the same age as them living at the 1800’s. When asked if they would like to live in those times, they all said ‘no’.
