Throughout October, NRHS celebrated Black History Month with a full month of activities that highlighted culture, history and togetherness. Pupils took part in creative learning, enjoyed music of Black Origin, explored films with majority black cast, and experienced the rich flavours of Afro-Caribbean food. The celebrations built up to a fantastic school carnival filled with dancing, laughter and community spirit.
NRHS came alive as we celebrated Black History Month with a wonderful mix of learning, fun and community spirit.
Throughout the month, pupils took part in a range of engaging and educational activities that explored Black history and culture. The school looked amazing, with colourful decorations and even two big blue inflatable tube men dancing proudly outside, setting a joyful tone for everyone who arrived.
Pupils were offered an Afro-Caribbean breakfast alternative, giving them the chance to enjoy delicious food and learn more about its cultural roots. As pupils arrived on Friday mornings, the corridors were filled with the sounds of music of Black origin, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere to start the day. During extra-curricular sessions, pupils also watched films featuring majority Black casts, which sparked some great conversations and reflections.
The highlight of the month was our Black History Month Carnival on the 16th October. The day was filled with music, dancing, and smiles all around. We were joined by two talented dancers who wowed the crowd and invited pupils to join in and learn a few moves. Everyone enjoyed delicious food from our Afro-Caribbean stall, including jerk chicken, rice and peas, plantain and patties.
The celebrations throughout the month created a real sense of pride and unity across the school. Pupils learned more about Black history and culture in a fun and engaging way, and the atmosphere was filled with joy, respect and community spirit. It was a truly memorable month for everyone at NRHS.
