Key Stage 3 pupils in Y7 and Y9 benefitted from workshops, run by TfL, and which focus on giving pupils the knowledge about how to keep themselves safe when travelling on public transport.
Year 7 pupils enjoyed an engaging and interactive workshop, from the TfL STARS (Sustainable Travel, Active, Responsible & Safe) Team. This was an informative session about planning travel, conduct and keeping safe when on public transport. Pupils also learned about the environmental impact of the way they choose to travel.
The STARS facilitator, also reminded pupils about the benefits of applying for their Zip card (available 1 month before their 11th birthday): 11-15 Zip Oyster photocards – Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk). Pupils engaged well with discussion around the responsibilities of having their own Zip card.
The pupils particularly enjoyed the interactive scenario-based task, where they had to decide if they needed to press the ‘information’ or the ‘help’ button on the Tube platform.
Year 9 pupils also enjoyed an excellent workshop from TFL Project Guardians, this workshop focused on raising awareness and safeguarding young people from sexual harassment on public transport.
The presentation engaged pupils using film clips, real stories, and CCTV images. The presenter, and the supporting police officer, facilitated discussions around behaviours, the law and reporting. The pupils asked excellent questions which deepened their understanding and perspectives of sexual harassment behaviours.
The school will continue to support all of our pupils gain the knowledge, understanding and insight on how to keep themselves safe when out and about in the community and when travelling on public transport.
