Year 9 pupils were taken to the Science Museum to enhance their learning and understanding of Maths.
A maths trip to the Science Museum??? A lot of pupils were initially confused as to how this wasn’t a science trip, but seeing the links between maths and science among other subjects was part of the learning opportunity.
Pupils visited the Winton Gallery, which was a journey into the history of mathematics, ‘Engineers’, ‘Flight’ and ‘Exploring space’. These exhibits showed pupils how far maths can take them. Several pupils on the trips have an interest in engineering and planes so being able to see things they were really interested in was inspiring for them.
To finish, pupils were taken to ‘Power Up’, which was a space within the museum that housed 160 gaming consoles from the past to present. This showed pupils how gaming has changed over the last 50 years and also connected links to their learning in computer science. They were all amazed at how basic computer games were back in the 80’s.
This trip was a great opportunity for pupils to realise that museums can be fun, and educational, places.
