NRHS’ Year 11 GCSE Art class visited The Tate Modern Art Gallery to get inspiration for their up-and-coming GCSE exam. The trip involved pupils searching the gallery spaces for inspiration and ideas that will go onto influence and inspire the direction of their project work and final piece.
Pupils entered the Turbine Hall confronted with a mechanical textile installation that incorporated elements of sound, use of materials, considering space and scale. Pupils then visited a range of gallery spaces collecting information on the artists and works through their photography and note taking.
Pupils saw a range of paintings by a range of Masters including Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh and Bridget Riley. The group ended their trip eating lunch together at Nando’s and sharing stories about their lives, hopes, dreams and wishes for the future. A great trip was had by all.
One pupil said: ‘I didn’t really understand that art isn’t just about paintings and sculptures, adding another medium like sound really brings an installation to life.’
