As part of Careers Week, we had the fantastic opportunity to welcome Milestone Infrastructure, who delivered an engaging and interactive workshop for our Year 7–11 pupils. The session provided valuable insight into the electrical industry, highlighting how their work with live wires offers higher earning potential compared to a regular electrician role.
The team brought in a variety of electrical equipment, including cables and tools, allowing our pupils to test out different components and learn how to put them back together. They also demonstrated essential skills such as safely cutting and fitting live wires, repairing broken equipment in lamp posts, and reinstalling live wires without risk of electric shock.
One of the highlights of the workshop was a hands-on challenge inspired by the classic Operation game. Pupils had to guide a cable up a post without touching it—if they did, a bell would sound, indicating an electric shock. This fun yet educational activity helped reinforce the importance of precision and safety in electrical work.
The session not only provided practical experience but also introduced pupils to the apprenticeship opportunities available with Milestone Infrastructure, which sparked great interest among many students. One pupil shared ‘I really liked the Operation game – it was challenging, but I kept trying and managed to do it in the end.’
