To celebrate Chinese New Year, year of the Wood Snake, Year 10 pupils were taken to the explore the different exhibitions of the British Museum, and in particular, the China exhibition. Pupils were able to visit the collection, which comprises about 23,000 objects that span the Neolithic age to the present. It includes a wide range of objects such as paintings, prints, jade, bronzes, lacquer and ceramics that reflect the richness and diversity of China and its history. One pupil said: ‘I really enjoyed the Egyptian exhibition as I was able to see a mummified human. It was amazing to think that this person was alive hundreds of years ago.’
To enhance their Chinese experience, pupils were taken to Chinatown to enjoy an authentic Chinese buffet. None of the pupils on the trip had been to Chinatown before and most had never had the pleasure of an all-you-can-eat buffet. Many pupils had ambitious plans to devour 10 or more plates…but after two or three plates, all went home very satisfied.
