Careers Programme Visit

Today Nurse James Chung visited NRHS to speak to Key Stage 3 about a career in Nursing. Nurses in England are at the heart of healthcare and

work together with other professionals to change and shape lives. Nurses could be helping patients with their mental health, assisting someone with learning disabilities, or caring for newborns, the elderly and everyone else in between.

Nurse James said that he struggled with his A levels so he decided to pursue a BTEC in Medical Science at local college. In order to qualify in a Nursing career, James said pupils must have 5 GCSEs with a pass in English, Mathematics and Science’. This was good news for our pupils as many are more than capable of achieving these grades. James said that the turning point in his life was when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and he realised that Nurses were desperately needed.

Nurse James bought along various pieces of equipment to show the pupils. These included breathing tubes, oxygen masks, cannulas and a stethoscope. He also spoke about life at University while training. The pupils were absolutely wonderful, well behaved, engaged and extremely respectful. Many of our pupils and staff had lots of interesting questions and Nurse James was happy to answer them all. Everyone learnt a lot!
