Over the past academic year, we have been taking Secondary pupils swimming at Fullwell Cross pool. Pupils have covered a range of strokes and skills including front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke.
In addition to this, pupils have learnt how to do head and feet first surface dives, floatation skills, somersaults, handstands and to swim underwater as well as tuck, star and pencil jumps. Some pupils have advanced further and learnt personal survival skills.
The emphasis is on learning how to swim with good technique to promote health, wellbeing and safety as well as having fun. The sessions are a time for the pupils to challenge themselves to become confident, competent swimmers.
