Careers Programme Visit

As part of the New Rush Hall School Careers Programme, former president of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers, Mel Gumbs visited us to give a talk to KS4 pupils.

Mel was the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers’ first black president and owns his own plumbing and heating business. Mel spoke about his journey from humble beginnings and gave insights into how pupils can stand out if they decided to take an apprenticeship route.

After the talk, one pupil said, “Mel really inspired me. He showed me that I can overcome barriers and become successful.”

Another said, “Sir, we need more of that. I found it really interesting.”

We at NRHS would like to send a special thank you to Mel for taking the time to visit us and also to Jason Clark, Chairman of PEW Electrical, for arranging Mel’s visit.
