Promoting STEM at NRHS

At New Rush Hall School (NRHS), inspiration is one of our key values. So as part of our careers programme, we have been giving all of our pupils plenty of opportunity to be inspired to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).

During the first half term, we took our KS4 pupils to a Technology and Engineering careers event in central London. Pupils who had never thought about a career in the Engineering or Technology sector walked away with new options and opportunities. One pupil said, “I didn’t expect to get much from today but I’ve left really happy. I’ve found a career that I’m really interested in”. That pupil has now looked into that role further and is really excited about following it as a pathway.

Our KS4 pupils were also fortunate enough to be invited to PEW Electrical. Pew Electrical are a local company who supply products to the Lift and Electrical sector. Its Chairman – Jason Clark, gave our pupils a motivational talk and tour of his business. Pupils walked away truly inspired. One pupil who was interested in pursuing a career within Engineering, now wants to be a Lift Engineer. Another more entrepreneurial pupil has now launched his first business and hopes to be able to partner with Jason one day. His journey from very humble beginnings really echoed with many of our pupils.

The final part of our mission to promote STEM was the launch of our STEM room, which was in part created by one of our Alumni, Paige. The STEM room is an opportunity for all pupils at NRHS to learn, play and be inspired by all things STEM. Pupils are given the opportunity to design, build and programme mechanical devices and to work their way up to becoming Master Engineers, being rewarded along their way.

At New Rush Hall School, inspiration is behind everything we do and our pupils and the support we gain from our local community constantly inspires us.
