Growing together through Football

NRHS’s U14 football team are doing very well in the South London Special School Football League, competing in Group B, they are currently 3rd in the league.

Last year the U14 team (now playing in the U16 league) won the league, setting the bar high for other teams to follow. This years U14 team are working very hard to retain the title. This is a very competitive group with teams quite evenly matched but they are up for the challenge.

With the team depleted due to illness andwith five games to play ,the team started the day with a positive and optimistic outlook. They drew three games and lost two, which considering they had no subs, and all of the players had to play at the top of their game, was an amazing achievement.

At the end of the day the team were feeling disappointed that they had not won a game but pleased with their overall performance. They showed many of the school’s values of friendship, courage, respect, determination, resilience and perseverance to keep going and even though they were tired and their energy levels had dropped by the last game at the end of the day, they pushed on through and saw the game out to the end.

The Coaches and Support Staff were extremely proud of how the team conducted themselves throughout the day, supporting each other and giving encouragement when required. As the season progresses the team are growing and developing together, learning new strategies to cope with the disappointment of not winning every game.
